When did Digital Marketing all begin?

There is a lot of speculation as to when this could have been, would this be when the radio was first invented? Or when the first email was sent out in 1971? – I think I’ll let you decide on that one. Most circles would say it was when the first Search Engine “Archie” came out in 1990.

Definition time….

Digital Marketing encompasses all of your online marketing and advertising delivered through a digital channel, although this definition may differ from one digital marketing agency to another. This modern approach allows your business to connect with consumers through B2B or B2C marketing but also boasts the benefits of analytical data for you to see what worked, when it worked and offer improvements for future campaigns.

We spoke to a Google Marketing consultant back in March 2018 and one of the key areas they pointed out was being ready for the Mobile World and pointed out these stats…..

  • 90% access of Facebook is done through a Mobile medium

  • 60% of searches done in the world is done so via Mobile

Social Media Marketing (SMM)

A big part of B2B and B2C marketing is understanding that behind the decision-makers are real people. People especially in the modern era connect via social media, and people are already interacting with brands through social media. Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram have all adopted paid advertising models in recent years due to the sheer power and potential reach of this approach. To be successful with a SMM campaign your content has to be engaging so requires a lot of planning and should have a goal that can be measured.

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)

Search engine optimisation is the name given to the process to improve your websites online visibility on a search engine results page such as Google. When someone searches for a keyword related to your business then ideally your business will appear as an "organic” result.

As a general rule, sites that appear higher up in the results will get more traffic to their pages, and so potentially more business. Every businesses aim is to be on page one and ideally at position one but depending on what market you are in this may not always be possible.
